Landscape Design Process
Initial Consultation
-This meeting occurs onsite. During the initial consultation, the scope of the project is initially outlined. A consultation on a residential project sometimes results in the client receiving sufficient information during that meeting to proceed without any additional design input, particularly if the area in question is limited or only requires a simple treatment. For projects where more comprehensive plans are necessary, this is the opportunity for the client to outline their objectives, likes and dislikes, and generally convey to the landscape designer what they want. It is helpful if a client has photographs of typical designs or styles that they prefer. Frequently a client only knows in general terms what they want to accomplish and is relying on the landscape designer to present them with several alternatives. These responses are explored in the Conceptual Design.
Conceptual Design-This is the first response from the Landscape Designer to propose a variety of possible solutions to the changes the client wishes to make. The ideas represented by this design will be based on the client's needs and desires as discussed during the Initial Consultation. It is essentially the Landscape Designer's response to the client's question of "I want this so how do I get it?"
During this stage, the design can also act as a long-range blueprint in the event that the overall project may involve different phases. Once all parties have agreed that the conceptual design represents the direction they want to pursue, Huxley Landscape Development will bring out a contract that details the project and what it entails. Once the contract has been signed, the date of construction will be determined. The conceptual design is intended to be flexible; changes may be made along the way.
